Plan your Airlie Gardens wedding around the day you want

I’m Glenn, a wedding photographer based in Wilmington, North Carolina. This guide brings together Airlie’s published venue rates and the photography planning I would discuss with you before your wedding.

Start with your group size, whether you want a reception here, and your preferred date. Venue rental and photography are separate bookings. See the venue cost summary below, then explore my photography collections and ask about your date.

For a real example, Madison and Chris’s morning ceremony and portraits followed a route through the lawn, pergola and Spring Garden. Their arrangements are an example, not a package offered to every couple.

1. Ask Airlie about your date before building the timeline

Use Airlie Gardens’ official wedding page to request availability and arrange a tour by appointment.

Bring your estimated guest count, ceremony plans and any reception plans. Before booking other vendors, ask for a written quote and the current rental agreement so you know the access window and payment schedule.

2. Choose a portrait route you can enjoy

At Madison and Chris’s wedding, we photographed on the lawn, by the pergola and in the Spring Garden. Instead of treating the gardens as a list to finish, I would choose a few nearby settings around the photographs you love.

3. Separate venue rental from the rest of your budget

A venue rate is not your complete wedding budget. Ask for an itemized quote covering rental time, deposits and any applicable fees. Then budget separately for photography, your officiant, coordination and any other services you choose.

Before paying vendors, ask Airlie which services, rentals and decorations are allowed for your booking type. Confirm insurance, catering, alcohol and coordination requirements in the current agreement. Ask for the requirements that apply to your own booking type.

Ask how setup, breakdown and public access affect your day. Confirm a weather plan and accessible routes before committing to a ceremony or portrait location.

4. Leave a separate window for family photographs and portraits

Madison and Chris’s wedding began at 9:00 AM and our garden time ended at 10:30 AM. We worked through the ceremony, family photographs, candids and newlywed portraits within that agreed window.

Your timeline may need a different amount of time. Prepare your essential family combinations, choose someone who can gather those people, and allow for moving between locations. We can decide together which pictures matter most if the available window is short.

How much does an Airlie Gardens wedding cost?

Venue rates checked November 3, 2026 against Airlie’s official wedding information. Confirm a written quote before booking.

• Elopement: $250 per hour; up to 10 people including the couple, officiant and photographer. Reservation required, year-round; no rentals or decorations, and only an officiant and photographer as vendors.
• Weekday ceremony: a two-hour rental costs $500 at 1–3 PM or $700 after 5 PM; up to 100 guests.
• Friday ceremony: $500 per hour, two-hour minimum; up to 100 guests.
• Saturday wedding: $1,000 per hour, three-hour minimum; ceremony and/or reception, up to 300 guests.
• Sunday ceremony: $1,000 per hour, two-hour minimum; up to 300 guests.

Airlie lists a refundable $1,000 damage deposit for weekday, Friday and Saturday bookings, plus $400 security for Saturday receptions. Saturday and Sunday require 50% of applicable fees to secure a date. Regular rentals run March through mid-October, Tuesday–Sunday, with additional setup and breakdown time.

What should you ask before booking?

Can we have our ceremony and reception here?

Match your plans to the booking type in the rate summary, then confirm your date, chosen spaces and access times with Airlie. A small ceremony and a larger reception need different vendor and timeline plans.

What happens if it rains?

Ask the venue for the approved weather arrangements for your booking. Share that plan with your photographer and other vendors; do not assume a covered location or indoor backup is included.

How much photography coverage do we need?
