A personal underwater photography experiment
In my original field notes, I described testing an underwater housing with my Fujifilm X-T4 in a pool before taking it to Wrightsville Beach with friends Carissa and Lyndi. This was an experiment in making photographs around water, rather than a promise of a particular ocean condition or a standard session package.
What the test taught me
The pool and ocean were very different experiences. Waves made framing and holding the housing steady harder. Sand around the equipment, water drops on the dome and the camera going to sleep interrupted the session. I also could not adjust the zoom once the camera was inside.
My practical lesson was to prepare the camera settings before sealing the housing and protect the equipment from sand. Those are notes from this particular test, not a guarantee about equipment protection or a recommendation to use a housing beyond its manufacturer instructions.
Plan around the conditions, not a fixed shot
A beach photograph does not need to happen underwater to feel connected to the coast. For a session inquiry, tell us whether you want portraits on the shore, at the water edge or have another idea. We will confirm what is feasible before agreeing on a location or coverage.
Comfort, access and the conditions on the day come before recreating a photograph. Do not count on clear water, calm waves or an underwater portion as part of a standard booking.
