Make a license appointment
Milwaukee County issues marriage licenses by appointment at the Courthouse, Room 105, 901 North 9th Street. Both applicants must appear together. The county provides a document checklist covering identification, certified birth records, residency, prior marriages and officiant information.
Check the current fee and timing
The county lists a $120 license fee, with a 3% card convenience fee and no personal checks. Its instructions require the application at least four days before the wedding and state that the license is valid for 60 days. Contact the Clerk about timing or waiver questions before scheduling.

Arrange a ceremony outside the license appointment
The County Clerk’s page currently says courthouse weddings are unavailable. Ask the Clerk for current officiant information and arrange your ceremony location separately. Do not treat a license appointment as a wedding appointment.
Plan photography around the confirmed location
Once your Milwaukee ceremony is booked, choose which moments you want covered before and afterward. I would leave a little space for gathering your guests and making family portraits, rather than planning the next reservation immediately after the ceremony.
For an outdoor portrait route, discuss the season, walking distance and a comfortable indoor alternative. Confirm permission for any private space before building it into your day.
