Choose the issuing town, not a county assumption
Long Island is not one marriage license office. One verified option is the Town of Hempstead, which accepts couples marrying in New York regardless of residence. Both must attend and sign before the clerk; follow the chosen town own instructions.
Hempstead application and timing
Hempstead asks couples to call 516-812-3014 for an appointment after completing the application. Its published fee is $40, with a card surcharge. The standard waiting period is 24 hours after issuance and the license is generally valid for 60 days. Review its original document and previous marriage requirements.
Book the ceremony separately
Hempstead offers ceremonies in its Town Hall chapel or outside on the patio by arrangement. Call the Marriage Department to reserve a ceremony. Other Long Island towns and private venues have their own bookings and access rules; the Hempstead arrangements are not island wide.
