The Fayette County Clerk’s published instructions direct adult applicants to the marriage license office at 162 East Main Street, Room 132, Lexington. Both applicants need to appear with approved identification. You can begin the application online, then complete it at the office.
Choose the license date around the ceremony
The county’s instructions give a Kentucky marriage license a 30 day validity period, including its issue date. Check your planned ceremony date before choosing your office visit. Confirm current fees, payment methods, identification and any special circumstances directly with the Clerk.

Book the ceremony separately
Completing an application is one part of the plan. Confirm your authorized officiant, ceremony location, witnesses and arrival time separately. Ask the office or officiant what must happen after the ceremony to return and record the license.
Leave a little space for photographs
For a short Lexington ceremony, I would start with the photographs that matter most: the two of you, the ceremony if photography is permitted, and the people who came with you. Confirm indoor camera rules before counting on coverage inside an office or courtroom.
If portraits are outside, choose a nearby meeting point and a weather backup. A longer drive between your ceremony and portraits can use more of your coverage than you expect.
