Apply in the town where you will marry
A Hartford ceremony needs a license from Hartford Vital Records. Both applicants appear in person with the documents on the city checklist. An online worksheet is preliminary paperwork, not the completed application.
New rule: allow at least 48 hours
Beginning October 1, 2026, the city requires at least 48 hours between completing the official application in person and license issuance. The period begins after both applicants sign and the registrar completes the application. Do not plan to apply and marry on the same day.
Confirm the ceremony separately
The city lists a $50 license fee and a 65 day validity period. Arrange an authorized officiant and any City Hall room or photography access separately; obtaining the license does not reserve a ceremony or portrait location.
