Romare Bearden Park: a city setting
The county lists Romare Bearden Park at 300 South Church Street. Consider it when you want an Uptown setting rather than a secluded garden. Agree on one meeting point and check events, parking and current conditions before choosing the time.
For a surprise proposal, I would plan where each of you will stand and choose a backup spot if the first background is busy. I would not promise an empty park.
Freedom Park: a relaxed park session
Freedom Park is an option for couples who prefer a park setting to city streets. The county’s facility listing notes the park’s location outside Uptown and its annual Festival in the Park. Check the event calendar and confirm session arrangements before settling on a date.
I would keep the portrait route simple: one meeting point, a few nearby backgrounds and time to walk together. Share any mobility needs or plans to bring a pet so we can choose the route around you.
Duke Mansion: a reserved portrait experience
Duke Mansion is at 400 Hermitage Road. Its gardens and architecture offer a different setting from a public park.
The Mansion has a dedicated photography reservation with a sitting fee. Its published policy limits the standard session to four people, including the photographer or assistant, and specific backgrounds depend on events. Ask its team whether your engagement session or proposal can be accommodated before booking photography.
Choose the plan before the backdrop
For engagement portraits, tell us your preferred setting, date and whether you would like 60 or 90 minutes. One location can leave more time for photographs than a session spent driving between several places.
For a surprise proposal, share the moment you are planning, who knows about it and how you will arrive. We can discuss the photographer’s position, a discreet meeting plan and portraits afterward. Location permission and any reservation must be confirmed separately.
Timing, weather and permission
Choose a time around the location’s operating hours and your plans. We’ll discuss light, crowds, walking distance and what to do if weather changes. A park visit, restaurant reservation or hotel stay does not automatically include professional photography permission.
Ask about pricing for your actual date and location. We’re based in Wilmington; we’ll confirm Charlotte travel and availability with your quote.
