Start with a riverfront setting and a clear plan for the moment. These are two Charleston, West Virginia options to discuss, with current city information and practical photography considerations.
Details reviewed October 30, 2026. Confirm current arrangements directly with the linked office or venue for your date.
Haddad Riverfront Park
The city lists Haddad Riverfront Park at 600 Kanawha Boulevard East. It is a riverfront event setting, so confirm the event calendar, current work areas and usable space before choosing it for a proposal or portraits.
Magic Island Park
The city lists Magic Island Park at 101 Kanawha Boulevard West, where the Elk River meets the Kanawha River. Check current access and park arrangements with Parks and Recreation for your date. Its published park list gives daylight-to-dusk access.
Plan for a public setting
I would choose a definite meeting point, then a nearby backup if the first place is crowded. Keep the proposal route short and decide where each of you will stand. A public park does not guarantee a private background.
Confirm any permission needed for photography, decorations or a reserved setup. Tell us about family joining afterward and how much walking feels comfortable, and we can discuss a session plan and destination availability.
